How To Fit A Metalastic Bush

Step 1

Two Haynes vehicle handbooks lying on a wooden surface; one for a blue Land Rover Discovery diesel and one for a red Peugeot, both showing front car illustrations on the covers.

Vehicle-Specific Preparation:

Consult Your Workshop Manual.

Refer to the workshop manual of your vehicle for instructions on dismantling and reassembly.

The guidelines which follow only relate to fitting Polybushes.

Step 2

A person applies wd-40 from a tin to a rusty car undercarriage, focusing on a bolt joint to loosen it.

Preparing for the Installation:

Lubricate and Gather Components.

Apply penetrating oil to nuts and bolts 24 hours before starting.

Obtain all parts and equipment needed including new nuts and bolts (if rusted in the old ones may be damaged during removal).

Step 3

Close-up of a person's hands using a hand tool to sand a cylindrical object. The hands and the tool are the focal point in a workshop environment.

Preparing the Mounting Surface:

Cleaning for Optimal Performance.

Having removed the old bushes (refer to your manual), thoroughly clean their mounting.

Remove all rust, scale, oil and grease as these will reduce the life of the new bush.

Step 4

A person clad in a purple shirt pours oil from a white jug into a small red oil can cradled in their hands, demonstrating a routine maintenance or mechanical task.

Ensuring a Secure Fit:

Installing Polybushes.

Use only soapy water or tyre soap to insert Polybushes.

This will dry and the bush will be a tight fit ensuring long trouble-free life. Your components are protected too!

Step 5

Close-up of two hands using an orange clamp device to cut or secure a thick black cable on a wooden workbench with tools in the background.

Hand-Fitting Polybushes:

Special Cases and Examples.

Some Polybushes can be fitted by hand. Examples include anti roll bar bushes and two part bushes.

Step 6

A person's hands utilising a blue vice to securely hold a cylindrical red and black object on a workbench, with tools and boxes visible in the background.

Pushing Bushes into Position:

Tools and Techniques.

Others will need a push to pop them into place.

You can use a vice or a “G” clamp. The DIY “one hand” clamps are excellent.

Use plenty of soapy water.

Step 7

Close-up of a hand tightening a blue G-clamp onto a metal pipe in a workshop, with tools strewn in the background.

Tube Installation:

Careful Attention to Detail.

Repeat the procedure for the tube.

Cotton reel bushes are easy but with two part bushes you need to make sure the tube does not push the far half out.

Step 8

Close-up of hands holding a freshly assembled cylindrical device with red and black components and metallic bolts, in a workshop environment.

Troubleshooting Installation:

Helpful Tip.

If you are really struggling – a long bolt, nut and two large washers can be used to wind the bush into place.

Step 9

Two hands using a file to shape a red plastic object secured in a metal vice on a workbench, amidst various tools.

Cautionary Note:

Avoid Cutting Bushes.

Never cut the bush in an attempt to make it easier to fit, it will weaken the bush and increase the likelihood that it will fail.

Due to a mail strike the product arrived later than I wanted it to, BUT, that is not the fault of Polybush. I love the product and look forward to my next opportunity to install their bushes in my vehicles.

Always been happy with Polybush. Never disappointed.

Changed to another brand once that was allegedly better. Load of nonsense. Didn’t last a year on the racecar. Back on Polybush, 2yrs passed and haven’t looked back

All bushes on my Land Rover Defender (1995) have now been replaced with Poybushes. The effect is a noticable drop in road noise being transferred to the cab. The handling and ride is now smoother. When they need replacing many years hence, that will be a lot easier than getting the old standard bushes out!

Full set of bushes fitted to my VW transporter. I can honestly say that the difference is utterly incredible. The pot-holed roads up here on Skye suddenly seem far less dreadful! The decrease in body-roll is really noticeable also.
Great service and so approachable. Polybush – a massive thank you.

While all the pieces did not fit for my vehicle – stabilizer bar ends for my L200 K34T GJENTUR – everything else did, front and rear. It has been two years since the installation and they are still in good condition with tons of off-road km under them and what looks like tons more to go (If allowed, 4.5 Stars)

I STRONGLY recommend products from PolyBush.
